UKassa (YooKassa) - what's important to know
What is UKassa and who is it suitable for?
Yuka (formerly Yandex.Kassa, now owned by Sber) is Russia's largest payment service, serving over 200,000 stores and processing more than 1 billion transactions annually. It supports all current methods for the RU audience: Mir/Visa/Mastercard cards, SBP, YMoney wallet, installment plans, B2B invoices. Complies with 54-FZ (online cash registers). Standard for businesses selling to Russia or with a RU audience: SaaS, online courses, e-com, info business.
Can YKassa be connected from Cyprus?
This is the main question for businesses in Cyprus. Direct integration with Yukassa requires:
- Legal entity in Russia (LLC or Individual Entrepreneur) - only thus is activation possible
- Bank account in a Russian bank for payments
- Russian Resident for signing the contract
If you only have a Cypriot company, self-integration is not possible. Options:
- Russian partner resident RF (often a freelancer integrator or your Russian counterparty)
- Alternative RU-PSPs available for foreign legal entities: CloudPayments (International options available) Ozon Pay, Tinkoff Acquiring Through a partner
- Pay via PayPal/Wise if your audience is ready - but conversion is lower.
We help you choose the optimal option for your case.
Yuka's rates in 2026
- MapsFrom 2.8% (for turnover 100k+/month) to 3.5% (standard)
- SBP: 0.4-0.7% - the cheapest channel. For socially significant goods - 0%
- YMoney Wallet: ~3.0%
- Apple Pay / Google PayHow maps
- Deferred payment: 6-12% of payment (customer or store pays - configurable)
- AlphaClick / SBP-Pay: 1.5-2%
Standard scheme: maps for desktop audience + payment button for mobile (60%+ of payments). Reduces average fee to 1.5-2%.
When Yukassa is the Right Choice
- RU-audience — clients in Russia, CIS, or Russians abroad
- Online courses / info business — main channel for Russian-speaking schools, courses
- SaaS for the RU market — Difficult to work without recurring billing on Yukassa in Russia
- E-commerce with RU delivery — Customers are accustomed to making payments through Yandex.Money
- Business with 54-FZ obligation — integrated link with OFD
When Ykassa isn't the best choice
- Only EU/US audience — Yukassa does not work with non-RU banks for receiving payments. Stripe or PayPal will suit better
- A Cypriot company without a Russian partner — Activation impossible
- B2B international — for receiving EUR/USD from global clients, better Stripe
- A marketplace with a global audience — Stripe Connect is more flexible
SBP - the main payment method of Russia in 2026
Quick Payment System (QPS) - a bank transaction standard by the Russian Central Bank. As of early 2026, over 70% of online payments in Russia are via QPS because:
- Low feeFrom 0.4-0.7% for most goods vs 2.8-3.5% for cards
- Instant translation: Money on account in seconds, not 1-3 working days
- Without card storage: safer for the client
- Mobile-friendlyA deep link opens the banking app, "Pay" button.
Implementing a "Pay via SPB" button with a QR code for desktop and a deep link for mobile.
Online checks under Law No. 54
Russian mandatory requirement: A fiscal receipt must be issued to the client for each online payment. Without Act 54-FZ, fines of 30,000 rubles plus per receipt
- Cloud cash register (e.g., OFD ATMOL, Yandex.OFD, DreamCash) - from 600 RUB/month
- Transferring check to OFD (fiscal data operator) for each payment.
- Automatic check sending to the buyer by email or SMS
- Product labelling (if applicable): shoes, clothing, tobacco, medicines, perfumes, fur coats, etc.
- VAT accounting (rates 0%, 10%, 20%) - configured per product
Yuka has native integration with most cloud cash registers — setup takes 1-2 days.
Recurring billing (auto-renewal)
The main advantage of Yookassa for SaaS and subscriptions:
- Save payment method — Client attaches a card, then automatic deductions without involvement.
- Multiple plans - Monthly, annual, with year-long discount
- Trial period — 7, 14, 30 days free trial
- Smart retry — If payment fails, we try 3-5 times.
- Customer portal — The customer can cancel or change the card.
- Prorate — upon tariff upgrade/downgrade
For recurring payments, we use the save-payment-method API + our scheduler in the backend (checking daily who needs to be debited).
